The MC Workshop was created to support lyric writing, delivery, and performance for hip hop music enthusiasts. Students will work on wordplay exercises and techniques to elevate their lyrical style and skills, then collaborate to write and record an original track in Halfling Studio, our state-of-the-art recording facility. With first-hand insights on how to master your craft from a 40-year veteran of hip hop culture, this one is not be missed. Beatmakers welcome. No experience necessary.
Vursatyl is an MC from Portland, Oregon and former member of the hip hop group Lifesavas. In 2001 Lifesavas signed to Quannum Projects, home of DJ Shadow & Blackalicious, where they released two critically acclaimed albums “Spirit in Stone” and “Gutterfly”. Over his 30-year career he has recorded and collaborated with DJ Shadow, Run The Jewels, George Clinton, Smif-N-Wessun, Camp Lo, Dead Prez, and Maseo of De La Soul to name a few. He has toured with De La Soul, Slum Village, Talib Kweli, Del The Funky Homosapien, X-Clan, Blackalicious, and has opened for Kanye West, Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Snoop Dogg and many more. Vursatyl released his first solo EP “Crooked Straights” on the UK based BBE Records in 2015. The record produced singles that garnered remixes from hip hop heavyweight producer Jake One as well the iconic DJ Spinna. The project was nominated for Germany’s “Best Hip Hop Album” alongside nominees such as Tyler the Creator in 2015. In October of 2021, as a member of Lifesavas, Vursatyl was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame. With a current single doing well on all streaming platforms, Vursatyl is on schedule to release a new full-length project in 2022 as well as projects from young new artists recently signed to his label, Vursatyl Enterprises. vursatyl.com @vursatyl11
