Sir George Martin. Dr. Dre. Timbaland. Rick Rubin. These internationally acclaimed music producers are all part of our cultural zeitgeist; but what does a music producer actually do? What skills are required and how do you begin to attain them? In this three-week workshop, we’ll discuss songcraft, strategies for song arrangement, getting “amazing takes,” and general philosophies for success in the recording arts. Working producers will share their own career paths and studio experiences via online panel discussions. And we’ll put our new skills and insights into practice when we record, arrange, and produce a cover song in Bodecker’s state-of-the-art Halfling Studio. No experience or tech access necessary. Students do not need to be musicians or songwriters – all are welcome.
